My Music Library

Let us read these albums like they were open books!

The Links page – Now just for music! Here I share albums and songs I like, sometimes even with my thoughts on e.g. what parts, melodies or instruments are interesting; or what situations, feelings and eras of my life I associate with them.

Some far day away, I'd also like to somehow upload all the tags I've given my local music library and give you ways to filter everything according to the mood of what you want to listen to. But for that I'll have to make it work in my own system first...

Some Notes

The Albums

Ambience

This is a collection of ambience I came across, which mostly stems from either video games or real life recordings. Ambience is something I rarely listen to, but it's the perfect thing for when I desperately want to listen to music but can't find anything that I want to – either because it's too distracting to think well or because it all doesn't hit the subtle nuances of my current mood.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Fan-Made by Dezphos)

A fanmade concept album of hourly music for Animal Crossing New Horizons back when it wasn't out at that time. This has a lot more of a calmer, melancholic, echoey, quiter tone to it than the official soundtrack.

Liked Tracks:
  • 12AM – Probably because of the guitar
  • 2AM – I remember singing this and sending it via a voice message to someone and them responding that they find it calming
  • 5AM
Celeste: strawberry jams

The massive soundtrack of a massive Celeste mod called the "Strawberry Jam Collab", comprising a variety of styles in both levels and music.

City Slicker

I discovered this when someone played this with the now unavailable radio item on the Roblox game "Midnight Horrors", around the same time I made this website. Because of this, it has this strangely indescribeable emotion fused into it, created by the unpolished stylesheet and graphics I made for the website. I like every track equally.

Also has neat music videos that help to underline the mood the music is going for.

Darkwood

I didnt play this, but instead watched Limalicious' playthrough of it on Twitch. While most tracks were just immemorable ambience (probably, I cant remember), the tracks "End of the Night" and "New Dawn" that play at the end of each night stuck to me. I don't listen to those tracks alot, but they're still nice and fit the game well.

Disco Elysium

I dont know how I caught wind of this soundtrack, but I never played or really know what the game's about. There are only two tracks I care about:

  • Whirling-In-Rags is mainly associated with my prom night, which was quite an emotional time since I liked my class a good lot and it was sad thinking about never seeing them again. This emotion is also captured in the tracks "Millennium Anthem (2000 New Years Eve)" and "Eulogy" from Hypnospace Outlaw's OST while sobbingly building a train station in Minecraft.
  • Miss Oranje Disco Dancer mainly because of it's beginning with it's drums. There's just something about them that make them memorable to me.

Most other tracks seem to be what I would call "depressing, but sometimes slightly hopeful ambient music" and haven't interested me.

Dredge

Most of the game's soundtrack was just ambience I never found memorable as I focused on the game. There are however some tracks that stood out to me.

The tracks I like mostly stem from the first area of the game (The Marrows) as well as the ending (especially that bad ending track before the credits). The tracks I hate are the different themes for the Travelling Merchant, as it just drills into you after visiting her for the 100th time with that loud accordion playing the mostly same melody.

Most of the tracks present here are short pieces that set the tone of an area.

One interesting thing is that this album includes ambience tracks of the various sea environments you travel through in-game. They're quite a neat addition that have made their way into my Ambience Collection!

Liked Tracks:
  • Main Theme
  • The Marrows Moodsetters (The Periphery, The Sunken Memory, The Glass Journey, The Morning's Plans, The Doldrums)
  • Her Theme (Drowned)
  • Her Theme (Lucid)
Fishdom 2

A bit of an odd-ball. Basically a game from my childhood my mom accidentally bought instead of another match-3 game (Around the World in 80 Days).

One fun fact about this is that since the game is quite old, most files that were on the disc came unencrypted so I could just simply copy and paste the music files of the game into my music library and have perfectly loopable music. I also made the cover image using the Fishdom 2 title graphic from the game files and a random screenshot I found online.

Liked Tracks:
  • Underwater Paradise – Chill
  • Kingdom of Poseidon – Reminds me of an overworld season track from Stardew Valley.
Good ol' Collection

Internet Compilations

This is just a collection of those YouTube video game music compilation videos that I like!
From what I've heard so far, I can recommend Vapidbobcat and stellarsheik, since I like their playlists and they seem to make me consistantly feel... good? relaxed? (Although I've only listened to like 2-3 playlists for each, so it's not really a good sample size to judge with).

K.K. Slider Collection

A collection of songs made by K.K. Slider from the Animal Crossing games. Most tracks try to encorporate a specific musical genre, feature fun cover art and are generally nice, short and lighthearted to listen to.

There are too many liked tracks to list them here, but some favorites I remember using in the houses of my various Animal Crossing saves are K.K. Love Song, My Place, K.K. Synth and K.K. Technopop

Lobotomy Corporation

An interesting soundtrack: Most of the soundtrack consists of songs already made by other artists, with only around 15 original songs for the game itself. Since I didn't get really far into the game (yet?), I only scraped the surface of the soundtrack, but still found some that I like.

Note that I found no good/definitive playlist for the soundtrack. I've linked to the official one uploaded on Project Moon's YouTube channel, but that's missing the Story and trailer tracks as well as containing some promotional material (PV probably stands for Promotional videos). The other playlists are either unsorted, incomplete and/or contain visual spoilers (lines of dialogue, characters, situations (in some cases even story reveals), environments), so search at your own digression.

Liked Tracks:
  • Story 1 – Title Screen Music
  • Neutral 1-4 – The latter versions wouldn't kick as hard if the previous wouldn't exist. Especially the added beat in tracks 3 and 4 is always pleasant to hear it kick in.
  • Never Frozen Bottom Flows by Tilardis – Abnormality Selection screen. Really effective at capturing hopelessness.
Madorica Real Estate Collection

The soundtrack for the first two Madorica Real Estate games; games so unknown that not a single person on YouTube has uploaded the soundtrack. The only really official release of the soundtrack I found are cassettes from the official japanese website, purchaseable in yen.

Since there isn't anyone who uploaded any track at all, I just recorded the tracks I liked myself, which mostly are the tracks that play inside the properties.

Petscop

The soundtrack of a fictional video game called Petscop, made to tell a story throughout 24 videos on a YouTube channel with the same name. The first part of the soundtrack is more cheerful and upbeat while the other part is dark and ambient – I mainly like the first part.

Liked Tracks:
  • level1
  • level2
  • credits
  • explore-min & explore carry a melancholic atmosphere that creates the image in my mind of a video game area/chapter after something horrible/depressing happened.
Please Don't Touch Anything

Everything feels drenched in slight melancholy, maybe due to it's mostly synthesized(?) soundfont(?). Most tracks are short and play after getting one of the endings, but there are a few longer ones that I return to when I remember them and am in the right mood (melancholic).

Liked Tracks
  • title screen
  • main theme
  • Awaiting input
  • ultraviolet secret
Remixes & Co. 2

A collection of one-off tracks that either don't belong to an album (like remixes, mash-ups) or that I discovered seperate from an album (by hearing it as background music from a YouTube video or in a video game, for example) whose other tracks I couldn't be bothered to listen to. This is the second volume I made because the first volume became quite large.

It might seem weird that this has an own dedicated page while the first volume doesn't, but that's because there's less tracks and they're more fresh on my mind so it's easier to write about them. Plus the metadata of the tracks in the first volume is quite horrendous and I don't want to go through the effort of fixing up the metadata of around 50 tracks, so I just shove my problem into a closet and instead start with a fresh slate.

Roblox: Community Collection

Since Roblox gives a lot of tools to create games, some have gone the extra mile to polish their games up to an extreme, adding custom graphics, stories and music. This is a collection of soundtracks I like that were specifically made for games on Roblox.

Contains following game soundtracks
  • Abyss World
  • DOORS
  • Item Asylum
  • nico's nextbots
SiIvaGunner Collection

SiIvaGunner is a parody YouTube channel that mostly uploads mash-ups of video game music and advertises them as the real deal (i.e. as if they were unmodified). It (alongside the channels it is and was parodying) have had a long history, but as of today SiIvaGunner has a good number of contributors pumping out mashups every 2 hours (which is just insane!). This collection consists of the mashups that grew on me mostly because of how good they sound.

Splatoon 3

The most listened-to tracks here stem from the Story World Overworld – that music is etched into me with the time I first entered university and how foreign, big, lonely and scary it felt. I also have loopable versions of every layer of those tracks, as the mood shifts quite a lot with the later layers getting added.

Liked Tracks
  • Two Shadows in the Sun
  • Hyper Diver – Associated with the foreign, modern, large and towering buildings of the university I went to (Especially the earlier layers). It feels lonely, cold and is associated with me often feeling conflicted and pondering alone on benches spread across large swathes of asphalt and environment between each building. This feeling extends itself to Two Shadows in the Sun, although not quite to the level it's present in here.
  • Bait & Click (Mutation)
Will You Snail

I feel like this soundtrack suffers from overuse of a leitmotif, making it rather repetitive regardless of what track you're listening to. Regardless, I still listen to some tracks from time to time when I'm in the mood for them.

Liked Tracks:
  • Death by Nanobots – Melancholic, but still pushing forward. Probably the track I listen to the most.
  • Disco of Doom
  • Hello AI – I like the melody of the verses and refrain, but find that the refrain plays too often and quickly becomes stale.
World of Horror

A retro-styled soundtrack for a retro-themed horror game.
